History
Speedway Midget Car driver Brad Mosen has shown over the weekend during The National Midget Car Championship, he will definitely be one of the drivers to contest the coming International Midget Car Series at Western Springs.

Piloting the CRC Synergy Racing V8 Powered Midget, the weekend's championship ultimately proved to be a success, qualifying well on Friday with two heat race wins and a group feature win, automatically put the team through to the three race qualifying format to determine starting positions for the Saturday Night Final.

Heat 1, Brad drew grid position number four, starting well and with a great set up he quickly took the lead, Hickman challenged for a number of laps but quickly found that Brad was only at 80 % as he pulled away and finished comfortably in first position, the CRC Synergy Powered midget showing excellent pace.

Heat 2, starting from grid position 14 turned into the hardest race of the night, a problem with the rear brake calliper forced Brad to drive with absolutely no brakes !, " I had to lift off the throttle half way down the straight away to set the car up for the corner, luckily the race went the full 20 laps from green to chequered flag and we could keep the momentum going, one of the most difficult drives I have done !, finishing in 5th was an excellent result ".

Heat 3, starting again from grid position 14 was going to be a much harder task, the track had gone black slick and searching for grip was always going to be the key factor, under pressure to repair the car and turn it around for the final heat race, Crew Chief and Car Engineer Justin Insley performed the almost impossible, the end result? Another stellar drive, from Brad, avoiding desperate drivers, blind track dust clouds, and riding the developing cushion had him finish again in 5th position, this secured the team a start position on the second row of the grid for the Feature Final.

Feature Final, starting from the second row was the perfect scenario, wait for the race to settle and then concentrate on the task at hand, 3 laps passed and the team had cleared Hickman to take second position behind Michael Pickens in 1st, unfolding in front of the crowd was what they had all come to see, Brad Mosen in his CRC, Synergy Racing, Synergy Powered, King Chassis Midget, vs Michael Pickens in his Sang Yong, BSL Racing, Esslinger Powered, Breka Chassis Midget.

Jostling for 1st position over 7 laps had the crowd on their feet, something New Zealand Speedway fans have not seen for a great deal of time, slide jobs, wheel to wheel action coming from the two best drivers in the country, there was literally only inches to spare.

It was only a matter of time before one folded, and a small mistake from Mosen in turn 3 had him jump the cushion and drift into the ever dangerous marbles, unfortunately this was to be the end of the night for Synergy Racing as the car drifted up and hit the wall, causing a roll over.

"I just made a very small mistake and it cost us the NZ Championship, we had the car, we had the outright speed, and we proved that, I'm just gutted for the boys and everyone involved, what I can say is though, we are close ".
In three weeks time, Brad Mosen, Justin Insley, Simon Longdill, Luke Fisher, and the rest of the Synergy Racing crew head to the all important International Midget Car Series at Western Springs. The hottest contested Speedway Racing in New Zealand attracts USA stars Bryan Clauson, Kevin Swindell, Kyle Larson, Jerry Coons Jnr, and a host of Australian competitors, all fighting with the local kiwis on their home turf.
"We have put together a brand new package this year " says Fisher, "driver, chassis, engine configuration, and crew, it was always going to take a little bit of time, but we are now in the best position we have ever been, it’s taken us 3 meetings to iron out the teething problems, and to get Brad comfortable with the car, we are confident we have done everything we can heading into the International Series at Western Springs as one of the top teams, we would love to see you all there to support us taking on the world”
As one of the most unique racing teams in New Zealand, Synergy Racing could not have achieved their success to date without their key partners, a big thank you to Murray and all the team from CRC Industries New Zealand, Doug McLaren from Jensen Transport, Umesh and the team at Special Steels and Metals, Andrew at Elf Lubricants, Mike at Embroidery Works, and Citizen Watches.
We look forward to seeing you at the Springs in three weeks.
